The Acropolis and The Sacred Rock
Begin the day with a spectacular sunrise tour of the Acropolis! As the sun’s morning rays peek above the horizon, we’ll reach the top of the Acropolis stairs, where guests will be treated to a spectacular view followed by a tour of the “Sacred Rock”. Breakfast will follow the tour before visits to Syntagma Square, the Academy, the University, the Greek House of Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Cape Sounion
On this unforgettable expedition we’ll visit the legendary Temple of Poseidon, god of the sea. This great marble shrine stands on the edge of the cliffs nearly 200 feet above the Aegean Sea. A bit further down the windswept bluff, view the ruins of the Temple of Athena of Sounion. Since there are two roads linking Sounion with Athens, we’ll take a different route on the return. The old road on the return passes through villages famous for their wine production. We’ll visit a local winery for a tasting and a tour.
Ancient Corinth
Known as the city of rich merchants, Corinth was one of the wealthiest city-states of ancient Greece. We’ll crossover the Corinth Canal to visit this beautiful and historic archaeological site. This once great city founded around 5000 B.C. is now a dramatic collection of ruins. Later visit coastal villages nearby, see the original Greek capital of Nafplio and then stop at ancient Mycenae where guests can visit the tomb of King Agamemnon.
Prehistoric Athens
Take a glimpse into the fascinating world of prehistoric Greek art while on this guided tour of two of the most important and exciting museums in all of Greece: the Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art and the National Archaeological Museum. The Goulandris offers one of the best overall views of the beginning of Greek civilization through its collection. The Archaeological Museum houses a collection of prehistoric masterpieces, highlighting Neolithic pottery, Hellenistic statuary, and archaic bronze pieces.
